ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Karen J. Smith and I believe that authentic leadership – leading with purpose, values, and integrity – begins with the self.  As an ally in authentic leadership development, I guide this journey by creating space to discover reflect, and grow. This results in a leader that is deeply connected to his/ her authentic self and can lead teams and organizations effectively and meaningfully.

 

Earlier in my career, I experienced professional challenges and wished I had resources and genuine guidance aligned with my values. That is why I create a safe place for leaders, especially women, to figure out how to trust themselves because I believe people know their own answers - they just need a guide to help them discover them.

I work with mid and senior-level leaders with a focus on women. Additionally, I work with leaders of organizations to create effective, high performing teams.
engagement process

By engaging with thoughtful questions, I guide my clients into new thought pathways to look at challenges differently. By expanding their thinking and identifying their professional purpose, true strengths, values, and beliefs, the client can create new behaviors. Together, we develop new strategies to develop career opportunities and make a difference within an organization.

 

I first actively listen to clients to understand their current role and leadership goals. Next, a 360 evaluation is used to show how peers, leaders and direct reports see them. Then I have the client describe their vision of his/ her self as a leader. Gaps between current and future self are identified and goals are set.

One on one coaching

Coaching sessions are uniquely designed and driven by the client and can include the following:

  • Exploring solutions to work issues

  • Maximizing, managing, and cultivating relationships

  • Career development and road-mapping

  • Negotiation skills 

​

Coaching sessions are typically are 60 minutes and number of sessions can be short term or long-term depending on the objectives of the engagement.

​

Sessions can be done virtually, by phone or in person.
